Bits & Pieces BBC Studios and Post relocates L EIGHTON BUZZARD, UK — Custom Consoles (www.customconsoles.co.uk) has completed a relocation and renewal project for BBC Studios and Post Production (www.bbcstudiosandpostproduction.com), the BBC's commercial facilities arm. While the Television Centre site is being redeveloped, BBC Studios and Post Production has relocated its London studios business to Elstree and is providing high def TV studios at BBC Elstree and Elstree Film Studios in Borehamwood. The commission included moving the existing main production desk, production monitor wall and the lighting and vision monitor wall from Television Centre Studio 6 in London to the Elstree studio complex. Three additional desks have been provided, two from Custom Consoles' Module-R series, plus a specifically- designed lighting control desk. The new facility is structured as two separate rooms and becomes the main technical control resource for the 11,800-square-foot Elstree Studio D. A Custom Consoles monitor wall at the front of the production control room accommodates 26 video displays, plus a studio clock and monitor loudspeaker. Facing this is the main vision control desk, which is designed for use by a five-person production team. Technical facilities embedded in the desk include a production mixer, slow-motion effects controller and director-to-camera communication. To the rear of the relocated front desk is a new Custom Consoles Module R desk with three workstations, each equipped with a monitor display screen mounted on an Ergotron adjustable support arm. For another room, a Custom Consoles desk has been relocated from Television Centre Studio 6. The control desk there is designed for use by a team of three people with support from an additional person seated at a rear Module-R desk. The first show to benefit from the upgrade was ITV's The British Animal Honours, produced by Whizz Kid Productions.   Cinedeck releases V.4.2 upgrade N EW YORK — Cinedeck (www.cinedeck.com), which produces image capture systems, is now shipping V.4.2 software, which enables its dual-channel RX and quad-channel MX file-based recorders to costeffectively replace traditional tape decks in editorial and post operations. The V.4.2 release provides new playlisting capabilities and enhanced RS-422 deck controls. The recorders' abilities to connect to SAN and NAS shared storage expand their deployment options. Now, the Cinedeck RX and MX can be used as either players or recorders in a range of master/slave configurations and undertake the tasks of two or four tape decks, respectively. Playlisting allows users to select multiple clips and play them in a desired sequence with clean cuts. The enhanced RS-422 control allows the RX and MX to directly control, or be controlled by, other devices in a machine-to-machine editing mode, where Cinedeck is the recorder or the player, capable of creating instant, nonlinear assemble-edits using file-based media. Users can also import and apply LUTs non-destructively in realtime, and view the results via the on-board display on the RX and MX, or on output monitors. Pricing starts at $9,495 per play/record channel with the Cinedeck RX3G, and $13,499 with the Cinedeck MX. Cinedeck is also releasing ArriRaw recording and enhanced 3D stereo modes in an update this month. The RX and MX recorders will be able to directly record the Raw, full-resolution signal from Alexa cameras at standard frame rates up to 60fps. Users can record master and proxy versions of ArriRaw material, and have full access to Cinedeck's choice of codecs if they want to use multiple channels for each camera. 6 Post • July 2013 www.postmagazine.com Loyalkaspar adds to its creative team L OS ANGELES — Loyalkaspar (www.loyalkaspar.com) has added to its bi-coastal team with the recent addition of chief development officer Robert Blatchford and creative director Anna Minkkinen.
