products Thinkbox's Deadline 6.0 LOS ANGELES — Thinkbox Software (www.thinkboxsoftware.com) has released Deadline 6.0, the latest version of it renderfarm management solution for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. V.6 has been rebuilt from the ground up using Digia's Qt development framework and a MongoDB database. The MongoDB Database provides sizable gains in scalability. A redesigned GUI includes Deadline Monitor, which introduces new features such as delayed data loading; live data refreshing; a customizable layout that allows re-sizing, docking and floating of any panels; and a new customizable filtering system. Deadline Monitor automatically refreshes data in a background thread. Users can directly connect to the Deadline Slave running on a remote machine and view its log in realtime. All Deadline plug-ins and scripts now use a native Python bundle and customizable script menus. Sony intros flexible PMW-300 HD camcorder Spotting notes made easy P ARK RIDGE, NJ — Sony (www.pro.sony. com) has expanded its XDCAM HD line with the new PMW-300 camcorder, a semi-shoulder mount camcorder that combine the benefits of 1/2-type Exmor full HD 3 CMOS sensor technology with 50Mbps HD recording at MPEG HD422. The PMW-300 camcorder is geared toward pros who need a semi-shoulder camcorder that easily adapts to a range of commercial shooting environments. The 1/2-type Exmor full-HD 3 CMOS sensors offer high light sensitivity and low image noise to deliver clear, high-resolution images even when shooting in low-light conditions. The camcorder's high bit rate ensures quality capture of fast-moving objects, while its chroma subsampling feature is good for a range of video encoding areas such as VFX and greenscreen apps. The camcorder comes with a 14X zoom lens featuring a focus ring for quick switching between auto and manual focus. An 3.5-inch color HD LCD viewfinder (960x540 pixels) enables precision focusing for HD shooting. It has a standard recording mode of 1080/23.98p, but allows switching down to 720/23.98p to enable up to 2.5x slow motion. StarTech releases USB 3.0 adapters L OCKBOURNE, OH — StarTech.com (www. startech.com) is offering three high-performance USB 3.0 video adapters that feature a built-on SuperSpeed USB pass-through port. They allow users to connect devices in place of the host port. The adapters can be used to add high-resolution, multi-monitor capability to Ultrabook or ultra-thin laptop computers, as they accommodate the lack of USB host ports that results from the thin form factor design. The adapters are available with HDMI, DVI or VGA video output ports and deliver HD external video support, with playback resolutions of up to 1920x1200/1080p. The adapters are backward compatible with USB 2.0 host connections and require no external power. The units support mirrored, extended or primary display configurations, and the driver software supports display rotation. Up to five USB 3.0 video adapters can be connected to a single system. Pricing for the USB 3.0-to-HDMI adapter is $99.99. The USB 3.0-to-DVI adapter is $97.99. The USB 3.0 to VGA adapter is $93.99. REDWOOD CITY, CA — SpottingSession (http://spottingsession.com) is designed to help audio/video editors take and organize spotting notes. It integrates directly into Avid's Media Composer and Pro Tools. Other NLE integration is coming. Playhead position is streamed out in realtime from the editing suites to any user running the SpottingSession iPhone/iPad app or Web equivalent. From there notes can be added at marker points. Notes from all users can be collated and exported in common marker formats for importing back into the editor's suite. It stores all notes with a secure encryption format. SpottingSession is available as free trial. Sonnet upgrades xMac Mini Server I RVINE, CA — Sonnet (www.sonnettech.com) has upgraded its xMac Mini Server, a Thunderbolt-to-PCI Express expansion system and 1U rackmount enclosure for a Mac Mini with a Thunderbolt port. The xMac Mini Server transforms a Mac Mini computer into a full-fledged expandable rackmount server. This enables users to harness the power of PCIe cards, including a full-size pro video capture and processing, a digital audio interface, a DSP accelerator, FireWire, a RAID controller, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, eSATA, and other PCIe cards. The xMac Mini Server accommodates one full-length, full-height PCIe card and one half-length, half-height (low-profile) card. The updated xMac Mini Server now supports a double-width PCIe card's daughter card and includes BNC connector mounting holes on the enclosure's rear panel. In addition, the length of the xMac Mini Server is now 15.8 inches, making it suitable for deployment in a range of mobile racks, carts and rack bags.
