Planet of Love and its show are set in a fairy- tale setting, a bright forest, a shimmer of small magical lights. Planet Saturn transforms itself in a gigantic bright translucent lantern, highlighting the kiss of the two heroes. And at last, the Planet of Despair addressed Garth's desire to include a sad and dark planet at the beginning of the show, to progressively increase the light power with the arrival and the music of Clay Calloway. To do that, each pyramid that forms the set was built with a series of LED lights inside the volumes, creating a light installation with a simple and ecient graphic writing. The beginning gives the priority to the cold and dark volumes of these pyramids, then the light intensity progressively increases with the emotion of the sequence and graphically depicts the lines of a music score. For all these sets, the work of the lighting department was absolutely prominent. For all of the animated movies that I have been brought on to work as an Art Director, teamwork has always been essential. But I have the feeling, when I remember the work done on this movie by the Art Department, that there was a particularly strong and intense dialogue between all the departments, to further push the quality of the film and obtain the finest result. It was a great pleasure to work with Garth Jennings on this beautiful project; sweat, some tears and a lot of laughs and enthusiasm. Thank you Garth.
