T H E N I C K C A N N O N S H O W | P E R S P E C T I V E 7 9 In the months leading up to the outbreak of COVID, I designed a new set for The Wendy Williams Show. The producers (Debmar-Mercury) mentioned that they were working on a new daytime chat show for primetime personality Nick Cannon and would I like to do it. Little did I know that it would be another eighteen months until we would fi nally hit air, making this the longest project in my career from start to broadcast. I began research late 2019 when I looked closely at Nick Cannon's wardrobe, the way he dresses on a daily basis. He's all about bright colors, lots of pinks and yellow, teal, etc. I also looked at photos of his home and his gym, at home he has a whole room dedicated to candy in clear plexi tubes, his persona is FUN! He's a fun guy, very driven with a thoughtful undertone, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's an entertainer. I took all that info and designed the set with a candy area and a fi reman's pole for him to enter down (something Dean Martin did on his show many years ago). I put in a shoe wall to display his outrageous shoe collection, the record album wall to display his favorite albums (classic vinyl.) There was a library area. (Nick reads several books a week somehow with his crazy schedule.) I had some color but I toned it down, I was afraid of moving away from the daytime rule of beige, cream, earth tones (every daytime set), so my color was just accents.
