The award-winning
Hungarian film Son of
Saul garnered 66 wins
and 62 nominations,
including Oscar winner
for Best Foreign
Language Film and
was MPSE's Golden
Reel recipient for Best
Sound in a Foreign
Film in 2015. The
film is a masterpiece
of intimacy inside
the context of the
Holocaust, and we
are very pleased to
be able to present
a conversation that
MPSE Wavelength
had with Tamás Zányi
(supervising sound/
Foley/dialogue/ADR
editor, sound designer/
sound effects/music
editor/Foley artist)
about his experience
working on the film
and his career and
current work.
CHARLES MAYNES: Thank you
Tamás for taking the time to tell
us about your work. Can you tell
the MPSE readership a bit about
your history, and how you became
involved in sound for film?
TAMÁS ZÁNYI: I have been living
in Budapest, the largest city in
Hungary, for a long time, but my
Tamás Zányi recording ambiences.
