M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 67 Young Hannibal. Friday was a special day! Recording Aston Martins and Range Rovers at the Aston Martin HQ at Gaydon in Warwickshire. Our team consisted of me (of course), Martin Cantwell, Jimmy Boyle, Jack Whittaker and Dave Mackie. It's not every day you get to go in the original DB5, a new DB9, drive a top of the range Range Rover Sport and watch a stunt driver wreck a DB9! Jimmy Boyle led a team on the following Monday to Bisley to record guns. The gun handling would be done at Universal the next day. On Wednesday the recording group(!) went to record trucks and police cars at Dunsfold Aerodrome. Another fun day. August continued with Casino Royale in full swing on both the feature and the trailer. Young Hannibal was still getting recut. Oliver vacillated between Hannibal and Bond. There was always new ADR to shoot. Jimmy had completed the sequence at the Embassy in Africa and the guns, ricochets and glass were superb. He is a remarkable sound editor. I felt privileged having such good editors working for me. On August 30th, we got permission to get inside the perimeter at Heathrow to record aircraft taxiing on the runway. That airport sequence was mostly Jack Whittaker's and needed a lot of detailed work. James Harrison had taken over the trailer and was making it very dynamic. Colin and Simon were coping well with the production dialogues and the masses of ADR. Stuart Morton had started editing the Foley that Alex was shooting with Nigel Heath at Hackenbackers. On 1st September, MPS and Mark Taylor began premixing the CR temp at DLL in two theatres and then started the mix. On the 7th, Stuart Baird and I checked the Soho Hotel for a preview. The room seemed a little bright (soundwise I mean). The next day we took the temp mix to Soho Hotel for a rehearsal. We then screened for Daniel Craig. On Saturday 9th, we had the preview in the two theatres at the Hotel. Very good screenings. I preferred the sound in the smaller room but the picture looked better in the larger one! Monday the 11th had me, Stuart, Martin, David Arnold and the VFX team checking what we would all be bringing to the final version.
