basis for his understanding of what was happening in the rapidly decaying world around him, and gie him the tools necessary to build and program eff . inchs aerospace workshop is a castle set apart on a hill and built of heay reinforced concrete. t is accessible by descending down a winding set of staircases, through blast doors, and still more stairs to physically remoe inch as far as possible from the world aboe. Surrounded by hoarded euipment, inch makes his liing uarters at the ery bottom of this fortress in a shiptight engineering maintenance department which proides intimacy and safety. n a postciilied world, the worldwide web no longer eists, so inch works to recreate a data main frame from analog materials of dogeared books while listening to inyl records as his personal soundtrack. n inscribed copy of The Little Prince hints at his past and present predicament. eff is introduced as a sole hand connected to a ube oldberg scanning deice and is ingesting his own knowledge from the library of books that inch has collected. ining e iguel is a fantastic artist in his own right and, in fact, began his career as a storyboard artist. e instilled the essence of eff to me in simple drawings that allowed me to undertake the comple design. The fi rst image iguel sent coered half the page with a grid of headprimities, rectangles and cylinders. t was accompanied with the note Something about this basic shape pleases me and makes me think friendly. is fi rst direction was to adhere to the idea of not being unnecessarily complicated. iguel knew he wanted eff to be of a scale larger than a human in order to coney strength, but he also needed to eude a ulnerability associated with his newborn innocence. really want eff to be unepected and not anything wee seen before, A.
