the studio spoke to Mark fi rst, and he recommended Phil and Chris as directors. They in turn hired him for The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Mark used a program from Dumpster Fire to create newer synth sound and combined them with retro sounds. He also stressed the importance of a live orchestra breathing life into an animated fi lm. He essentially delivered two scores, one electronic and one orchestral, and allowed the mixers to choose which sections to overlap. His music editor, Dominic Certa, deals with many tracks on the stage. A Conversation with Dickon Hinchliff e Jennifer then introduced Dickon Hinchliff e, composer for the series Peaky Blinders (a favorite of both myself and my wife), which led to the fi lm Locke. He had previously scored Winter's Bone. He is working on Maggie Gyllenhaal's feature directorial debut, The Lost Daughter. Maggie instructed him, "I want it to sound like a found record, that just so happens to fi t the fi lm." There were also songs in the soundtrack, and Dickon worked to make the transitions from score to songs so that it would not distract the audience. "As the fi lm progresses, I kind of pulled [the music] apart a bit," as the character changes through her life. Dickon also played many of the instruments, including violin and cello. He featured his string playing on top of a string section recorded at Abbey Road. Even though there is a Greek Island, he chose not to use Greek music after a few attempts. Dynamic Parametric Equalization (DPEQ) in Conventional and Immersive Media Post-Production This event was sponsored by http:// WholeGrain-DS.com to advertise their plug-in DynPEQ, which combines several functions. Five people conversed about their work using the plug-in: George Massenburg of McGill University, Tom Marks CAS of WB Sound/Black Rock Audio, Thor Legvold of Sonovo, Matt Orlando of Q Department, and Jason LaRocca of LaRocca Fella Center. George Massenburg, "It eliminates the need for a multiband compressor. Low-Q bell curves can keep it inaudible."
