and the Art Department was able to design and build pretty authentic representations of their fi rst set, a children's puppet show called Jim and Tammy. And for the fi rst time on this project, the production was faced with what would become a signature question on this project, "Where do we build it?" We had a lot of scripted behind-the-scenes interactions, so transforming a small warehouse or abandoned building would be beyond the scope of our budget. Our location manager, Amy Harmon, found a small local PBS studio, WTVI. It was a perfect size with just a few challenges. We were able to remove most of its standing sets and hide the rest and the white cyc with large old-school painted backdrops we brought in from Los Angeles. A bit of scattered hay bale seating for the audience of kids and we were good to go. Our next big hurdles in the set design were how to accomplish the PTL (Praise the Lord) televised stage show and the Bakkers at home as their rise in popularity leads to greater wealth and decadence. I had done tons of research before arriving in Charlotte but I was not aware that quite a bit of Heritage Village (Jim Bakker's Christian Disneyland) and their sound stage still existed twenty minutes away just across state lines in E X I S T I N G S E T AT L O C AT I O N - T O B E O B S C U R E D W I T H B L A C K C U RTA I N EXISTING SET AT LOCATION WILL NOT BE REMOVED BACKDROP - 19'-9" X 50' BACKDROP - 17' X 40' B L A C K C U RTA I N S W H I T E WA L L S W I T H C O V I N G B L A C K C U RTA I N S EXISTING SET AT LOCATION E N T R A N C E E N T R A N C E T O S TA G E T O S TA G E K I D ' S S E AT I N G H O U S E S E T B A R N S E T C B N F U N D R A I S I N G CBN - JIM & TAMMY SHOW CBN - JIM & TAMMY SHOW PLAN VIEW OF SETS ON STAGE PLAN VIEW OF SETS ON STAGE LAURA FOX 10.11.19 F.
