E-on Software; www.e-onsoftware.com WIN MAC continued from page 2 Editor’sNote What is diff erent this year? We’re all particularly excited about our new Dailies program, led by Bill Polson. We wanted to actively engage the production artists who did not have a venue at SIGGRAPH to showcase their craft. Researchers publish their papers and showcase achievements in Emerging Technologies, fi lmmakers get into the Festival, artists in the Art Gallery, and so forth. But being a 20- year veteran of visual eff ects, game, and animation production, I knew the Dai- lies idea was going to be a home run. T ere are two components to the Dailies. It’s about the work of the modeler, texture artist, animator, or technical director, but even more, it’s showcasing the amazing personal sto- ries that go into this work from these ‘People Behind the Pixels.’ T ey’ll be on stage in person to present all the amazing little things that go into mak- ing all the little details of the fi lms and games we love. Are there any areas that have more HARDWARE 3D OUTPUT Desktop 3D Printing Bits from Bytes unveiled the BFB 3000, a desktop 3D printer for outputting quick, affordable prototypes and models from CAD files. The BFB 3000, able to print objects from converted STL fi les on an SD card, comes with an optional second head for printing support material. It is geared to professionals and hobbyists alike. Bits from Bytes; www.bitsfrombytes.com attention this year? We are continuing to focus on gam- ing with pushing our Game Papers to an ever higher standard of excellence. T e Computer Animation Festival will also be highlighting Live Real-Time Demos and stereo 3D fi lmmaking. What will this SIGGRAPH be known for in years to come? I’ve been using my ‘three Cs’ to try and make 2010 stand out: communi- ty, clarity, and content. Community is our ‘People Behind the Pixels’ theme, coming together to have fun and ex- perience a sense of wonder and excite- ment like in the old days. Clarity, by a new Web-site design and programming to know what we have to off er and why you just can’t miss it. And, fi nally, con- tent: excellence above all else. How has the conference evolved by way of structure, content, and materials? T e conference year to year is re- markably similar. Like any major op- eration, we tweak things and re-evalu- ate every year based on a conference chair’s overall vision and the trends of our industries and attendee feedback. Every year we are concentrating on our core Programs as well. What do you hope attendees will walk away with? No matter what level of experi- ence you are, you’ll come away with new insights and ideas, creative tips and tricks, and a new awareness of the level of excellence the rest of the world is pushing for. Plus, you have to come to hang out with everyone in person, make new connections, and network with colleagues from all over the world. T e SIGGRAPH conference and exhibition has always been and contin- ues to be globally unique. No matter how you use computer graphics and interactive techniques, there is simply no substitute for being there in person, interacting with all the luminaries and professionals of our industries. T e ex- citement, the fun, the wonder that you feel when attending SIGGRAPH as a student is just as strong for diff erent reasons to us old folks who have been coming for years. ■ July 2010, Volume 33, Number 7: COMPUTER GRAPHICS WORLD (USPS 665-250) (ISSN-0271-4159) is published monthly (12 issues) by COP Communications, Inc.
