Architecture and design should be a response to
the nature of the landscapes.
Before starting any sketches, I dove into reference
mode to start figuring out what would be the basis
of the films language for eah world and ulture.
These ranged from ancient ziggurat architecture,
power dams, Soviet and Brazilian brutalism,
glaciers taking over valleys, marble mines, as
well as orld ar buners from the estern
European coastline, macro photography, insect
biology…
I've always been curious and amazed at the huge
monuments and constructions dedicated to the
glory and pretensions of mankind throughout
history. In the conceptual collage of the now
defunt talian firm uper tudio and renh artist
Nicolas Moulin, I found a certain resonance to that
idea of scale.
These images were then assembled in mood boards
and would become the cornerstone of the design of
the movie. It was now time to start sketching some
speifi ideas and begin the oneptual artwor.
