It was no surprise to me that when COID hit and the world came to a
stop that our members went into high gear. After a herculean effort, they
made over 50,000 masks. They volunteered at food banks. They held a
special, COID-safe drive on Halloween not only for IATSE members but
the neighborhood as well, and put together a drive to gather suitcases and
necessities for children transferring to homes or aging out of the foster care
system. one of this was a surprise to me because I know that on a daily
basis, costume designers pivot on a dime. Schedules, casting, extra fittings
can change daily and we need to be able to accommodate those changes
quickly and e ciently. I am so proud of how our members have respond-
ed to the return-to-work rules and adapted to the new methods on set.
o one denies that it has been di cult but we are doing it. To accommo-
date social distancing guidelines, the o ce staff had to quickly turn their
kitchen and dining tables into fully equipped o ces to serve the members.
What we thought would be a month at most became 15 months. We have
slowly opened and now you can visit the o ce by calling to make an ap-
pointment. Our Executive Board has shown exemplary service and dedica-
tion over these months. They have stepped up and voted to reduce dues
and stop any expulsions or terminations during the last year. I am so proud
of both the leadership and members of Local 892. I wish you all safety in
the workplace and at home for a brighter future.
