Burig worked on the film, but on other projects that didn't involve me and unfortunately, our paths did not cross. The Market Town of Porto Velho, Brazil After leaving the RADAS headquarters near Piccadilly Circus in London where the film begins, Lily and McGregor arrive in the Amazonian river town of Porto Velho. The town incorporated a train station, a hotel tavern, a large market and several boating companies offering river tours to delicate Edwardian vacationers. Porto Velho was shot at the Kapaia Reservoir in Kauai, Hawaii, where the team turned a large winding lake into the Amazon River with the town perched up on the side of a hill and built down to the water's edge. The Art Department in Hawaii faced the many challenges that come with working in a remote location: inclement weather, lack of movie studio services and being separated from the rest of the Art Department located at Blackhall Studios in Atlanta. Although there were many other sets in the film that I worked on, this was the largest one and took up the majority of my time. B C D
