With increased permanent gallery space for Chinese and Korean art and upcoming major exhibitions, the opportunities for the eaac have never been greater. The eaac promotes Chinese, Korean, and Japanese art—each an essential aspect of the museum's collection. Members of the eaac enjoy special lectures, workshops, and seminars; private collection tours and curator-led gallery walk-throughs; and occasional council-sponsored trips to such destinations as Hawaii or China. All gifts, regardless of size, ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy great art and enriching programs. There are numerous tax-advantaged ways of making a planned gift to lacma. We invite you to visit lacma's planned giving Web site to learn more about the various options and rewards of making a planned gift. We hope you will become a partner with the museum in shaping the future of the arts in Los Angeles. For more information, contact Patrick Morrow at 323 932-5816 or pmorrow@lacma.org, or visit lacma.org/give | All inquiries are confidential Member Profile Name: Toni Spencer Occupation: Credit analyst with Macquarie Q. Why did you join lacma? A. My husband and I joined on New Year's Day. We initially came to see the Vanity Fair exhibit and thought the membership offer was very economical if you planed on returning more than once, so we decided to join. We're new to Los Angeles, having moved from Australia in December 2008. This was on the to-do list as we moved from Orange County to Los Angeles. Q. How do you see yourself getting involved with lacma? A. I'm still discovering the museum and would like to learn more about it. I just hope to be a more frequent visitor. At home [in Australia], getting to galleries and museums is a bit of an afterthought because there are so many competing events. Here, I hope to get into some better habits! Q. Do you think the museum can help you shape the way you experience art? A. I'm interested in educating myself about American culture, and I think art is a big part of that. I am here for two years so I think it's important to learn as much as I can. Los Angeles is a young city and I like to learn about the contemporary history of L.A. I'm really looking forward to exploring the permanent exhibits soon. Q. What are you looking forward to most about your membership? A. Getting regular e-mail updates on what's on at the museum. It's easy to forget to check the Web site, and then you might miss out on something you really want to see. Q. Is there a notable difference between lacma and museums back home in Australia? A. The architecture! lacma is one amazing group of buildings, I love it. I always bring visitors here to see it. Q. What did you think of Pompeii? A. It was great. It's amazing to think how well developed their society was so long ago, how advanced the engineering was. I really liked the dining room setup with the paintings on all three walls, and the photos of the discovery in situ. It gave a strong sense of what life was like in Pompeii. Help LACMA Go Green! If we don't already have your e-mail ad- dress, we'd love for you to send it to us. You'll receive renewal notices, special invitations, and updates by e-mail, helping us conserve paper and postage. Please send us your e-mail address today— we promise we won't share it with anyone else—along with your name and member ID# to: membership@lacma.org.
