68 The Costume Designer Spring 2021 THE KIT VINTAGE The Kit Vintage is a carefully curated collection of vintage evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and daywear, ranging from the 1930s to the 1990s. Founder and curator Robyn Goldberg started collecting vin- tage Levi's as a teen and her obsession grew from there. "The best way to wear vintage is in a very modern, edited way," says Goldberg, who adds that being the only one in the room in an incomparable piece feels amazing. After working in fashion for 20 years in New York City, she wanted to return to her roots in vintage. She drew on her experience as a fashion editor and stylist when she named her shop "The Kit," referencing the essentials needed to make a cli- ent feel comfortable. The Kit offers seven-day pulls for their studio policy with a 20% restocking fee. @thekitvintage thekitvintage.com THE WAY WE WORE Doris Raymond has been in the vintage business for over 40 years. She established herself as a resource for production through her ability to locate special request and hard-to-find items. Her Los Angeles store is a go-to for red carpet events and period projects, as well as a source of museum-quality pieces for collectors and international institutions. Raymond carries the entire 20th cen- tury in womenswear, as well as a healthy stock of Victorian pieces. Her hat room is especially popular with costume designers and stylists. She also has a warehouse of general stock (not boutique grade) and is happy to offer bulk discounts on warehouse items. She tries to work with every costume designer to make sure their needs are met. The Way We Wore typically offers a 24–72 hour pull with a 20% restock fee. Items are available for purchase, not rental. @thewaywewore thewaywewore.com RESURRECTION Established in 1996 by co-founders Katy Rodriguez and Mark Haddawy, Resurrection Vintage on Melrose is considered by many to be a premier international venue for collectable and historical vintage clothing, specializing in American, European, and Japanese designers, avant-garde, youth culture, and fashion from the 1960s through the 2010s.
