Spring 2021 The Costume Designer 33 23 RD COSTUME DESIGNERS GUILD AWARDS T his year's CDGA has presented itself with a unique challenge: how to celebrate the art of costume design in a way that honors the show's legacy, while also providing a solution for all nominees to participate when gathering and traveling during a global pandemic is not possible. For the fi rst time in its 23-year history, the Costume Designers Guild Awards will be live-streamed globally to a wide audience of fans. Viewers will be able to tune in via the CDGA's Twitter profi le @costumeawards, or at www.CDGA.live. The online broadcast will be a hybrid of both live and pre-taped elements. Nominees will be encouraged to Zoom in live to dis- cover if they have won in their category from celebrity presenters, thus keeping the excitement of the announcements palpable and audience members engaged. Following the CDGA live stream, the ceremony will be made available to watch across several online platforms. This year's nominees are an exciting and diverse selection, with many fi rst-timers included in the esteemed group. And while CDGA veteran Lou Eyrich has logged a record 14 CDGA nominations, this year marks her fi rst ever for a fi lm. The 23rd CDGA also checks in with its highest total of cos- tume designer nominees yet at 44. We are more than excited to take on the challenge of amplifying the CDGA outside of the ballroom by providing a platform for fi lm, television, and short form costume design fans to engage on a global scale.
