Spring 2021 The Costume Designer 13 Dear Members, Last year proved to be a very busy year for us at the CDG offi ce. We spent most of the year working from home, but our workload increased. Members needed additional help with how to apply for unemployment, and how to access their insur- ance. Once they returned to work, they needed help staying safe on the job. We have provided many opportunities for our members to be involved with us and each other over Zoom. We have offered classes, seminars, and workshops every month, as well as holding membership town hall meetings. This month, we held our fi rst General Membership Meeting via Zoom. In February, the Guild was pleased to honor Ruth Carter with a full-page ad in Variety for her achievement of receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is only the second costume designer (Edith Head is the other) to receive this honor. It is quite an achievement and we are proud to count her as one of our own. In 2021, we are looking forward to better working conditions and relief from COVID. With the rollout of vaccinations, work will begin to pick up, and this will hopefully provide much-needed fi nancial relief for our members. In the meantime, it is important to be diligent in your practices at home and at work. If you see questionable behavior or have health or safety concerns on the job, you should immediately report it to the COVID safety advisor on your production, as well as to the CDG offi ce. As this new year unfolds, I hope you will all experience a renewed enthusiasm in your work, as well as health and prosperity.
