Interestingly, this set was originally meant to be built into a location, but a scheduling conict forced it to be punted to the stage, so for expediency some of the character of the location was translated into the stage set. New York Recreating Larry Underwood's backstory was always going to be one of the toughest obs on the show. Given the massive impracticality of closing down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the production opted for the next best thing. We closed down an area of downtown Vancouver over a weekend to create our viral mayhem. Dead bodies filled blocks of abandoned vehicles. Graphic Artist Jai Field and Assistant Art Director Deborah Burns produced a massive library of signage to fill the streets and every store, while Art Director Guy Roland meticulously mapped out every storefront and street sign to create an immersive version of New ork City. Finally, the fantastic set decoration department led by Renee Read dressed every angle and every corner. Visual effects would enhance what we were able to capture practically and extend streets. VFX supervisor and nd unit director Jake Braver took a small unit to Manhattan to record plates and shoot doubles for even more scope. One of the first maor concessions was how to deal with the Lincoln Tunnel.
