realized design that changed little during the construction phase. It's pretty satisfying to take a photo of the built set and then look back at the illustration from months before and see how closely we hit the mark. Ray Lai came on to help in the final weeks of pre-prep, another talented concept artist out of Vancouver. He worked up the design for the command module and cockpit, taking some cues from the SpaceX Dragon capsule, but sized to allow the kids room to move when they first sneak onto the rocket. One concern I had was how to align the seating. There would be numerous instances during the series when the kids would need to be piloting the ship and we wanted them to be sitting facing out the cockpit windows as if they were ying a plane, with all the control and agency that entails. Yet this would require the seats be laid on their backs as the kids enter the command module when the rocket is vertical on the launch pad, creating some awkward gymnastics to get into the seat. The solution was a seat that tilts back and rides up rails into the cockpit alcove. The beauty was that the process of strapping into the seat and riding it up into position was the manifestation of each character's conscious decision that they weren't going to be saved by their parents before F.
