photographed the set from every angle. He brought the layer of rock-and-roll lighting to the film, washing many sets in colors of The Prom logo: pink, blue, teal and purple. Blasting the colors through the windows of Grandma Bea's house despite having a backing out the windows gave the show the magic realism that musicals go to when reality is too blasé. There could be an entire chapter written on the graphics for The Prom, but I think notable is the work that Dianne put into the oor of the interior Shubert. Inspired loosely by the Shubert lobby in NC, Dianne vamped wonderfully and created an oceanic motiff that was printed on matte vinyl non-adhesive after being workshopped with Tom and Carol, applied to a skim-coated plywood, pieced together and waxed to sing all its own. There were four proms in the musical movie The Prom, five if you include the golf cart Emily decorated to make deliveries at Paramount. Michael Chickey and the location department secured three LA public schools to play the parts of the Indiana high school JF High School football bleachers, Taft Charter High School and Helen Berstine gym. Taft was heavily augmented by greens and paint. I'm sure Tom Brown could write a whole article about painting LA Public School Systems property. Additionally, a monster truck rally, mall and fountain, a built high school hallway and principal's oce, living room, bedroom with spinning bed, Grandma Bea's, Emma's bedroom, motel room and a myriad of other three-wall sets at Paramount and Raleigh Studios on Stage 14.
