M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 29 A fter having worked as a sound effects recordist, sound editor, and sound designer … it's always been the very first job I've had in this craft that has resonated with me the most—sound effects librarian. Listening to and cataloging sounds has always been fascinating to me. In 1988, I was very lucky to be hired at Weddington Productions, the sound effects company headed at the time by Richard Anderson, Mark Mangini, and Stephen Flick. I was their librarian … but as time went on, the job expanded beyond cataloging the sounds they alone were recording and creating. I started to get a reputation for tracking down specific sounds and libraries for certain projects—which led to the re-branding of my job title to sound effects wrangler. I would later get opportunities to edit and design sounds as well. But truthfully, at my core—I was always a librarian & archivist. Not long ago, after I had "unofficially retired," I was having lunch with a few fellow soundies Creating THE MUSEUM BY STEVE LEE, THSM FOUNDER IT WAS ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO, AROUND THANKSGIVING 2015, THAT I DECIDED TO START DEVELOPING THE IDEA OF CREATING THE HOLLYWOOD SOUND MUSEUM. I'VE BEEN LUCKY TO HAVE A CAREER IN FILM SOUND FOR OVER 30 YEARS—WHERE I'VE BEEN ABLE TO WORK WITH SOME AMAZING PEOPLE, AND CONTRIBUTE SOUNDS TO SOME BELOVED FILMS.
