84 I M PS E . O R G your sound design that you present it in context with the dialogue, with Foley, with music … everything. The rest will be easy, fluid, and enjoyable. What do you have lined up next? I'm working on another show right now that I cannot speak about due to my NDA. I'm very excited working on that project as well. My main goal is to be a better person and improve my skills as a professional sound designer, supervising sound editor, and re- recording mixer. My next step is to keep moving and keep going. In the book Nomadland, there is a beautiful sentence that I love, "there is hope on the road." So for me, always, there is hope on the road. I try to be better every day. Did you read the book to inspire your sound design? At first, I based all my sound design on the film. Later on, I found out the film is based on a book so I read it. It's very beautiful. I only read the book after the mix and it was more to understand this nomad community. The translation from the book to the film is very accurate and Chloé is a very visionary storyteller. I was very lucky to be a part of this team because she is brilliant. For me, it was a great synchronicity of our lives! Once again Sergio, I just wanted to say, "Fantastic job on the soundtrack, it's a beautiful story that is fully enhanced with the sound. You and your team did a great job." Thanks so much Miguel. I'm so excited to hear that. For us it was a very minimalistic treatment for Nomadland and we are very happy and proud with the result. Nomadland's cinematographic language cannot be conceived without a good sound proposal. Soundscape always goes hand in hand with the original idea, and if you stay true to it, it will tell you exactly everything you want to convey, and that is where we (sound team) simply become accomplices, and we make it grow to have a pure connection with what happens in the frame and to evoke emotions from the audience. Where you focus your attention, there is life!
