40 The Costume Designer Winter 2021 In 2020 she turned Landon Riddle into The Ice Ninja. Draped in icy-blue fabric, with a snowflake emblem emblazoned on his chest, a staff, and power ring, Landon looks as cool as the life mission he and his mother Sierra have embarked upon— championing the use of medical cannabis in pediatric care. It's no small feat that at age 2, Landon became the young- est American granted a medical marijuana card. "I'm gonna kick cancer's butt with my powers," he says. The Ice Ninja's superpower is controlling the winter, though Landon's eyes are on a coming spring when more children might have access to the healing virtues of cannabinoids. Unfortunately, COVID proved as powerful as kryptonite this year, foiling plans for the annual LOLLIPOP Superhero Walk. But it didn't stop the designers from completing their missions by employing their own secret weapon: extending a helping hand. When Sanja was called away, Tony came to the rescue by refitting a rapidly growing Ice Ninja in her stead. So, have no fear! Christopher, Landon, and Dylan— and their superhero designers—are ready to save the day … for the future. With his larger-than-life personality, Dylan Wolfe, anoth- er of the 2020 participants, wanted something showy, if only to show the world that living into the hero you naturally are is super enough. Intrigued by vacuum cleaners all his life, he's amassed quite a collection, from Bissells, Eurekas, and Hoovers, to Dysons, Dirt Devils, and a prized Sebo X7. Not surprisingly, Dylan chose to be the Vac Hero, whose power is to "suck all the cancer out of the world." Costume designer Tony Iniguez of RuPaul's Drag Race fame created a flamboyant iridescent costume, complete with rainbow cape and Lady Gaga-type silver boots.
