Ethnic Minorities in Yunnan China: Tradition, Identity, and Modernization Simon Høffding – Class of 2008 Alumni Profile As a 2008 graduate of Soka University, I have been working on the creation of a new elementary school in Denmark. After my return from graduate school in Liverpool, England with a Master in Philosophy, I was immediately asked for advice on using the model of Soka Education with its emphasis on one-on- one mentoring and nurturing students individually. In August, 2010, we expect to open the doors to a minimum of 30 students, primarily 1st graders and a staff of one full- time and two part-time teachers, a school leader and an accountant. The official template is what Denmark calls a 'Free School', which might parallel an American charter school, with more liberties than traditional public schools. The philosophical foundations will be those of Makiguchi, Toda and Ikeda as well as the dialogic format of the Danish Grundtvigdian tradition, a very influential and progressive educator. The founding principles of our school will focus on D ignity and Happiness…Reflections and Dialogue… Individual and Society…. and Knowledge and Wisdom. – Simon Høffding, SUA, 2008 Simon Høffding Tours of Soka University are available Monday - Saturday at 10 am and 2 pm www.soka.edu• info@soka.edu • 949.480.4000 S O K A U N I V E R S I T Y P R E S E N T S FREE TUITION f or admitted BA students whose annual family income is less than $60,000 Study Abroad for All Undergraduates Soka University, 1 University Drive, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 www.soka.edu The Implementation of Aquaculture in the Developing World: Peru as a Case Study Anthony Mazeroll and his students ventured to Peru to investigate the main issues and concerns of economic growth and issues of sustainability, as they relate to aquaculture.
