A founding LMGI member, she served on the Board for several years and co-chairs the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Additionally, she sits on the Board of FilmLA, its Operations Subcommittee, as well as the Los Angeles City Mayor's Task Force. The daughter of a lauded TV writer and documentary filmmaker, Vowell studied French and French literature at the University of Lausanne in her mother's native Switzerland. She began as a field researcher on the National Geographic television network series. Predating cellphones and internet, she traversed the country, armed with a small typewriter, 35mm camera and a roll of payphone quarters. For more than a decade, she has volunteered as an instructor at the American Film Institute's Bootcamp for future filmmakers. Vowell lectures about location management at Chapman, Emerson, and Boston Universities, and volunteers with Film2Future https:// www.film2future.org/ and ManifestWorks https:// www.manifestworks.org/ helping underserved members of society establish a foothold in the entertainment industry. Executive producer Merri Howard comments, "The location manager adds a third, fourth and even fifth dimension to the look of a project. Their work takes us into the world, giving our shows a depth of reality that can't be duplicated in the studio. Veronique Vowell has a unique eye, sense and feel for each project she is involved with." Her career requires close collaboration with the creative team, as well as legal and risk management executives of the multinational companies she works for. Therein lies the finesse of the job and the heart of her success. In addition to her creative and logistic solutions to decades of production dilemmas, her legacy includes mentoring generations of current and future location professionals. Diligent, clever, determined, they have been schooled by the master and we are grateful! ALM Artie Gonzales/LMGI praises Vowell as "highly experienced and well respected, proving daily that it is possible to do this work in a kind, respectful and dignified manner. She is constantly elevating others—a fierce advocate for diversity in Hollywood." Longtime colleague LM Andrea Keener/LMGI adds, "The family tree of location professionals that Veronique is the root of, reflects just how many of us her mentorship has nurtured. I imagine she considers this reflection one of her proudest career achievements." After years of traveling with feature films, she transitioned to television, based in her native Los Angeles, choosing proximity to her family. Vowell worked for Shondaland/ABC for almost 10 years as location manager on Scandal, supervising location manager on The Catch, Station 19, Grey's Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder. A dedicated Local 399 Hollywood Teamsters Steering Committee member, Vowell continues her work with the Education Committee. She is a respected advocate for location pros in key campaigns like California's Expanded Film and Television Job Creation Act and Tax Incentives program. "Location managing, like political lobbying, is the art of compromise in the effort to achieve the impossible," comments Vowell. Her credits include Cold Case, Scandal, Little Fires Everywhere, Ray Donovan, The Replacements, Angels in the Outfield, and The Distinguished Gentleman.
