white marble sarcophagus at
the head of dramatic refl ection
pool, facing the Hollywood
sign. The Fairbanks Lawn area
is where locals come to hear
music and watch classic fi lms
al fresco.
The very fi rst 'Movie
Star,' Florence Lawrence the
'Biograph Girl,' is buried in a
modest grave on the east end.
Silent screen legend Rudolph
Valentino rests in the gothic
Cathedral Mausoleum, where
every year since 1927, a
memorial is held, and the
mysterious 'Lady in Black'
places a single red rose on his
tomb.
The legendary Judy
Garland rests in a rose granite
mausoleum wherein fans and
friends occupy crystal niches
containing wonderful Wizard
of Oz memorabilia, along with
personal mementos for their
trip over the rainbow. And
Toto too! Dorothy's canine
companion has a memorial
near my chosen location, as
does Judy Garland's Golden
Era screen partner, Mickey
Rooney.
