Among his memorable adventures: "Solo camping and fi shing for wild trout on
the border of Torres del Paine (the Chilean national park in Antarctica); repairing the
truck exhaust with a jubilee clip and a tin of peaches (peaches removed and eaten)
whilst at the top of a mountain pass near Tierra del Fuego, with a snow storm
blowing through; being mugged at machete point in Cartagena; using chewing gum
and gaff er's tape to plug up a punctured fuel tank two days from the next petrol
station; and being briefl y held captive by a Quechuan mountain tribe deep in the
Peruvian Andes."
When his contract ended, he returned to the UK and freelanced his way into
fi lmmaking, with the aim of working in challenging environments. Not surprisingly,
he found his way to location scouting. Most of the work was urban—leaving him
yearning for the great outdoors. Then he discovered Coldhouse, where he is
currently the lead scout. The agency consists of a tightly knit group of skilled
lifelong outdoor experts, each "as comfortable dangling halfway up a mile-high
rock face in arctic Greenland as photographing Romany gypsies in the wilds of the
Carpathian Mountains." Our kind of people … and we are so happy to have Tom join
our global tribe!
