attractions, many of them in outdoor settings,
such as Bellingrath Gardens and Homes, Stone
Street Baptist Church with it's African-American
Archives and Museum, the USS Alabama
Battleship, and the Dora Franklin Finley African-
American Heritage Trail.
The trail stretches across the city of Mobile,
highlighting over 40 important historic sites, ven-
ues and events. Included among the sites on this
popular trail is the section of the city known as
Africatown, an African-American community set-
tled by descendants of African survivors from the
Clotilda, the last known slave ship to the U.S.
Development is under way to position Africa
Town as a international Heritage site, telling the
160-year-old story of the recently retrieved
wreckage of the Clotilda.
Mobile is easily accessible from three major
airports and Interstates 10 and 65.
Recognized as the birthplace of America's
original Mardi Gras, Mobile is a "walkable "city
that prides itself on having a flair for fun, an
appeal to families and for being a showplace
exhibiting a rich diversity of peoples and cultures.
Perhaps in a way as never before, planning is
the key element in every group gathering. With
this in mind, just know that when you're ready
for Mobile, Mobile is ready for YOU. For more
