The trail stretches across the city of Mobile, highlighting over 40 important historic sites, ven- ues and events. Included among the sites on this popular trail is the section of the city known as Africatown, an African-American community set- tled by descendants of African survivors from the Clotilda, the last known slave ship to the U.S. Development is under way to position Africa Town as a international Heritage site, telling the 160-year-old story of the recently retrieved wreckage of the Clotilda. Mobile is easily accessible from three major airports and Interstates 10 and 65. Recognized as the birthplace of America's original Mardi Gras, Mobile is a "walkable "city that prides itself on having a flair for fun, an appeal to families and for being a showplace exhibiting a rich diversity of peoples and cultures.
