This year's theme is "Honoring Our Past, Driving Our Community Forward." More than 7,000 attendees are expected to participate in a variety of workshops, educational seminars, lectures and professional development sessions to name a few. Roland Martin, award winning journalist and author will be the featured speaker at the opening ceremony. The NSBE has more than 29,900 members and is one of the largest student-governed organizations in the country. The organization includes 394 college, pre-college and professional/technical alumni chapters. Previous conventions have been held in Pittsburgh, PA (2011), St. Louis, MO (2010) and Toronto, CA (2010). Future destinations include: Nashville, TN (2014), Anaheim (2015), Boston (2016) and Houston (2017). Find out at www.nsbe.org. he city of Jacksonville, FL will host the 45th annual National Black Association of Social Workers (NBASW) conference at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront from April 26, 2013. This year's theme is "Building Coalitions for Community Empowerment: Ujima - A Model for Collective Work and Responsibility." The dynamic speaker lineup includes: Dr. Julianne Malveaux, economist, author and former president of Bennett College and the Honorable Anthony C. "Tony" Hill, federal policy director for Mayor Alvin Brown and former Florida state senator to name a few. The NBASW goal is to "create a world in which people of African ancestry will live free from racial domination, economic exploitation, and cultural oppression." Past conferences have been held in Atlanta, GA (2012), New Orleans, LA (2011) and Philadelphia, PA (2010). Their 2014 conference will be held in Indianapolis, IN (2014). T T he National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) will celebrate three decades of public service excellence at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA. This year's theme is "Equity, Access and Opportunity: Celebrating 30 Years of Public Service Excellence." The best and brightest minds will come together from April 19-23, 2013 to discuss critical issues impacting the public service industry and the greater community as a whole. Dr. Bernice King, CEO of the King Center and founder of Be a King Enterprises and Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, president, University Maryland Baltimore County are just two among several distinguished speakers. The NFBPA "is dedicated to the advancement of Black public leadership in local and state governments." Previous forum destinations have included: Virginia Beach, VA (2012), Chicago, IL (2011) and Greensboro, NC (2010). Their 2014 destination will be San Antonio, TX. Further information is available at www.nfba.org. he National Black Association of SpeechLanguage and Hearing will host their 35th annual convention at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington D.C. from April 18-21, 2013. Their theme is "NBASLH: Achieving our Mission, Vision and Purpose." This year's convention will feature educational sessions, intellectual presenters and a variety of development workshops. The opening session will feature Barbara Fernandez, founder and director of Smarty Ears.
