14 • THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2020 GUILD NEWS CRAFT EDUCATION Make-Up Craft Meeting, a Virtual Reality Rhonda thanked hair stylists Kenneth Walker, Mary Mastro and Janet Moore with beautiful certificates. The first Make-Up Craft Meeting of 2020 came a bit later than expected, but given the state of this year, we've grown to expect the unexpected. Times have changed for the moment, but the craft continues in spirit. On Sunday, June 14, more than 235 make-up artists signed on to Zoom for the first Local 706 Virtual Make-Up Craft Meeting. The program lasted an hour and featured a diverse lineup from around the world. Kicking things off, Jane Richardson, London-based Global Artistry Director for NARS Cosmetics, presented the new Orgasm X and Bronzing Collection in a candid and fun presentation and self-demo. Key takeaways were not only an amazing array of new products for our kits, but a call to action for 706 make-up artists to join the NARS Pro Community through a specially created NARS weblink. Discounted purchases using this link allows NARS to specifically track Local 706 participa- tion in order to create tailored union collaborations in the future. Our next presenters, Emma de Szoeke and Jeremy Coles, hailing from Australia, presented Croon, the new line of reusable and washable microfiber cleansing pads. Available in a variety of colors, they're envi- B Y B R I A N K I N N E Y J O U R N E Y M A N M A K E U P A R T I S T M A K E U P C R A F T P R E S I D E N T ronmentally conscious and sustainable, replacing dis- posable wipes, and can even be returned to upcycle after 200 washes. Members were given a 15 percent discount through https://justcroon .com. And finally, Matt Winston presented the Stan Winston School of Character Arts, an online and video-based FX school named after his leg- endary father, Stan Winston. Matt guided the members in attendance through a tour of the school's easy-to-use website, featuring an extensive library of online courses available on all aspects of special effects make-up, from painting to sculpting to puppetry and much more. Co-founder Erich Litoff and Enterprise account executive Nakisha Hester were also in attendance, as the company generously offered Local 706 members a free 30-day membership and continued professional discounts. There's never been a better time, or such an abundance of time for that matter, to learn new skills and polish up our knowledge with a whole lineup of professional experts at our fingertips. Our member- ship has thoroughly enjoyed this offer, and we look forward to even more collaborations with SWSCA and Local 706 to come. Check out stanwinston- school.com for the latest updates. And that concluded our Sunday program. Thank you to NARS, Croon, Stan Winston School of Character Arts, make-up craft secretary Michelle Chung, and all of the members who logged in to be a part of it. Connecting the make-up community during this dif- ficult time has been much appreciated and we will continue to put on exciting programs again soon, any way we can.
