THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2020 • 49 different designs on her for our camera test and then settled on the look she had for the movie: her signature braid on the side and her natural texture which was simple but functional for her character. Black Canary's wig began as a prototype from the camera test and evolved into what we saw on the screen. It was a combination of Jurnee's hair and a wig. Nikki Nelms designed the look and I had the wig built—it was a blend of textured hair that I cut and colored and because her own hair was braided into the side, it had a really nice movement to it. Then we finished it off with a mix of hair jewelry, as well as gold thread and whatever we could find that we liked. Victor Zsasz was an interesting character and instead of going with the "bald bad guy" look, we went with very short platinum hair. I did a series of tests using a bald cap and flocking blond hair on it to see what the platinum hair would look like (his hair naturally is almost black). We decided to bleach his hair and cut it short. This also can give a cold bad boy look. Black Mask had great hair to begin with so we started with a little color to the root and added a lot of texturizing to the haircut. This looked good. We called that his "rich bad boy look." Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco, had her own unique style and unlike the comic book, her look was a reflection more of life on the street. I would like to thank Margarita Pidgeon for her dedication taking care of her. We had an average of 12 to 20 wigs every day, including our stand-ins who also had to be dressed with make-up on and their character wigs. I would also like to thank all of our stylists who helped make this movie look as good as it did: Ahou Mofid, Stacy Bisel, Ginger Damon, Lori Fenton, Audrey Anzures and everyone else who worked so hard on the movie. These are the hair products that our team used on a daily basis: •Aerogel Hairspray •IGK Label M Spray color •HASK Charcoal Dry Shampoo •HASK Shampoo & Conditioner •Daviness Oi All In One Milk And, a special thanks to Justin Stafford for the Harley wigs & Gretchen Evans for the Canary wigs.• Top row: Adruitha Lee styling Margot Robbie.
