BITS & PIECES www.postmagazine.com 8 POST JULY/AUG 2020 MTI FILM'S CORTEX V.5.3 ACCELERATES WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT HOLLYWOOD — MTI Film (www.mtifilm.com) has released Cortex V.5.3, the latest version of its family of products for managing workflows on set and in post. The latest release includes a host of new features that make managing and processing data during production and post production easier and more efficient. The new release also adds support for the latest sound and picture formats, and deliv- ery requirements of leading distributors, including Netflix, HBO, Hulu and Quibi. "We continue to respond to changes in produc- tion and delivery, and to the needs of our users," explains MTI Film director of product development, Randy Reck. "Cortex V.5.3 will help users meet the challenges they face from more complex workflows and delivery requirements, and tighter deadlines. This new version delivers numerous new features and support requested by our clients, while improv- ing usability and performance." Cortex V.5.3 is available in five editions: two for DIT applications, a full-feature dailies application, an Enterprise package for post production and deliv- ery, and a quality-control application. The software runs on Windows 7 and 10, and uses one or more Nvidia GPUs. Among Cortex's new features is the ability to render multiple formats simultaneously, accelerating dailies processing and other workflows. The V.5.3 release also includes the option to automatically ap- ply IMF delivery specs for HBO and Hulu, as well as support for the 16x9 aspect ratio (portrait and land- scape) used by the new streaming service Quibi. MTI Film worked with Netflix engineers to align the dead pixel detection and repair tools featured in the Enterprise edition of Cortex V.5.3 with the Netflix detection algorithm. This solu- tion, which involves importing a .csv file supplied by Netflix, means that content can be prepared for Netflix while avoiding multiple re-deliveries to fix all pixel defects. A new loudness meter includes features for mon- itoring, measuring and analyzing audio levels, with results, across the full timeline, viewable in graphical reports. It also makes it easier to ensure delivery media conforms to loudness standards. HULA POST EVERYWHERE ENABLES REMOTE WORKFLOWS BURBANK, CA — Hula Post (http://hulapost. com), which provides equipment rental services, has launched Hula Post Everywhere, a new post service that enables remote workflows during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Remote editing became the norm once the pandemic evolved and safer-at-home orders were issued," explains Denine Nio, Hula Post's CEO. "But as the production side of the industry begins taking steps to return to work, a lot of editors will continue to work from home for the foreseeable future, so a substantial remote editing workflow needed to evolve. Hula created a more long-term solution to accommodate our existing clients, who have always depended on Hula to provide solutions for their needs, in any situation." Hula Post Everywhere provides dedicated band- width for each remote station, dedicated storage and a local workstations for each customer. It also includes technical support and service, both onsite and remotely, 24/7. The remote access setup is called the Residential Remote Interface (RRI), which is an in-home installation requiring a secure log-in to the same shared environment, as if working locally, and is accessible remotely 24/7. Remote clients can choose between either a Mac or a PC installation with a one-, two- or three-monitor editing system package that is connected to the shared storage. All plug-ins and third-party tools can still be used with no creative disruption, and all editorial collaborators can access any of the projects, bins and media. At the core of Hula Post Everywhere is the Datacenter, located onsite at Hula Post. The compa- ny created a secure, dedicated environment within its facilities that is specific to the Datacenter. It has the most stringent security systems and protocols in place in order to fully protect its clients' content. Additionally, it seamlessly mimics access to feature and television projects as if an entire editorial post team are working in the same single location, even with multiple editors across several different locations. Hula Post Everywhere is fully compatible with Avid's Media Composer shared Project and Bin feature on NEXIS storage. Hula Post CEO Denine Nio.
