PAULETTE VICTOR LIFTON: You've been nominated a number of times for Emmys and MPSE awards and last year you won for Barry. How great is it to win an Emmy? RICKLEY W. DUMM: I think about that moment every day of my life. It was the best experience I've ever had next to having children. Honestly, it was great. I couldn't replace it with anything. PL: So when they said that you won, did you scream? RD: I didn't scream, my wife screamed. We were up for it for season 1 and we just missed it for Barry winning. Atlanta beat us out and so when we fi nally won, I think I looked up and just went "Yes!" PL: Did you do the acceptance speech? RD: No I did not. Sean Heissinger did the acceptance speech. He and Matthew Taylor were the co- supervising sound editors. I was the sound effects designer. I just stood behind them with a big ole smile. PL: Bunny ears over their heads? RD: I tried doing that, but I was like, ah, keep it classy Rick. (laughs) PL: What did you do the fi rst night with your Emmy? Did you lay in bed with it? Take a bunch of pictures? RD: Yeah, I did take a lot of pictures of it and polished it probably a dozen times the fi rst hour. What I loved most about the night of the Emmys was carrying it around. It was very cool. When are you going to ever get to carry that thing around in public again, right? It's going to sit on your shelf forever. PL: Unless you're like me, when you go to the Emmys and you leave it in the car and then you go to dinner with friends and you take it out of the car and you pretend like you just won. RD: That's a good editor trick, right? PL: It's good for getting a free drink, I can tell you that much. So you also won an MPSE for Barry too, correct? RD: For Barry, yeah, that was my second MPSE win. PL: That's really exciting. What other show did you win your MPSE for? RD: I didn't even expect that one to come in. It was a straight to video done with Monkeyland. PL: What was the name of the show? RD: It was called All the Wilderness. It had a ton of design work and skateboard work. Props to Steve Avila and Trip Brock who were the supervisors on that show. PL: How did you decide to become an audio editor and how did you get started?
