Pinky, Elia azan's American race drama film about a light-skinned black woman passing for white, was released by Twentieth Century Fox to both critical acclaim and controversy. These unsigned illustrations were done with charcoal on paper mounted on illustration board. Both images depict Miss Em's house that is eventually passed on to her caretakers Pinky and her grandmother after Miss Em's death. The house is transformed to a clinic and nursery school. J. Russell Spencer and Lyle Wheeler are both credited as Art Directors. Spencer worked with Charles Chaplin on such greats as Modern Times and The Great Dictator. Wheeler is credited as Art Director on over films and received five Oscars Gone with the Wind, Anna and the King of Siam, The King and I, The Robe and The Diary of Anne Frank). B A.
