us to invade the privacy of
their homes or to clear room
for us in their workspaces and
their communities.
When the LMGA went
"International," they reached
out to people like me. The
Guild provided a terrific
opportunity for me to network
with like-minded colleagues
in the USA and abroad. The
LMGI Compass, the LMGI's
magnificent glossy magazine,
allowed me to discover and
admire our amazing collective
achievements.
What a surprise it was
when I learned that Tom
Clancy's Jack Ryan was
selected, nominated and
then went on to win the LMGI
Award for Best Locations
in a Contemporary Series
last year! An award that I
share with my international
colleagues: Arnaud Kaiser/
LMGI in France, Christian
McWilliams/LMGI in
Morocco, Peggy Pridemore/
LMGI in Washington, D.C.,
and Lori Balton/LMGI, the
lucky location scout who
travelled around the world
for the project. But mostly, I
am specifically indebted to
my fabulous location team in
Montreal, more specifically,
my KALM, Josée Francis, with
whom I have worked on all of
my films since 2005!!! She's
much more than a colleague,
she's family!
Since Jack Ryan, we have
worked on Roland Emmerich's
naval war movie Midway,
finished Season 1 of Fox-TV/
National Geographic series
Barkskins in the spectacular
countryside around Quebec
City. And, we've just jumped
on another ride with Mr.
Emmerich's next feature,
Moonfall.

I have two boys, adults now,
and I was lucky to have
had their father present as
they were growing up. This
allowed me to put in the
long hours demanded of a
location manager. I have great
admiration for single parents
who find a way to combine
their passion for film with the
raising of a family. In the near
future, I hope to slow down
a bit (I have been saying
that for the last five years)
to spend more time with
my family and to travel for
pleasure.
