Winter 2020
MUST-SEE PLACE:
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
Opened to the public in 1903, the mu-
seum is modeled after a 15th-century
Venetian palazzo surrounding an indoor
courtyard garden. It's the site of one of
the biggest art heists in history. They
still display the empty frames where a
Rembrandt used to be…
FAVORITE SHOP:
Polcari's Coffee on Salem Street.
Founded in 1932—when you see it,
you'll know…
FAVORITE RESTAURANT:
I'm Italian and live in the North End
so if I don't want to cross any big
streets, I'll go with Mamma Maria. Set
in a 19th-century row house with five
private dining rooms, Mamma Maria
serves supurb high-end Italian Food. If
I feel like venturing out a bit, Sorellina.
Located in the heart of Boston's historic
Copley Square, Sorellina serves up
modern takes on Italian-Mediterranean
cuisine amid warm, contemporary
decor.
PLACE TO SEE BY NIGHT:
Beacon Hill. One of Boston's oldest
neighborhoods lined with federal-style
and Victorian brick row houses. How
can you beat the charm of gas lamps
lighting cobblestone streets?
BEST DAY TRIP:
Cape Cod & the Islands. In two hours,
you can get to most anywhere on the
Cape. Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard
an hour or so shuttle beyond that. A
different, beautiful world just a few
hours away.
FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD:
The North End. Tourists would call it
Little Italy… Don't. Lots of charm. Lots
of Italian food … and pretty much the
neighborhood that spawned the Amer-
ican Revolution. Pretty cool.
FAVORITE LOCAL ARTIST:
The Pixies … just my opinion. Could be
The Cars. Just not Aerosmith.
BEST BAR/CLUB:
Yvonne's. A supper club that just
becomes a hangout for dinner and
drinks. Great vibe there. I'm a sucker
for that dark, quirky mess of velvet-
chic and portraits of Brahmin royalty.

BEST PLACE TO HEAR MUSIC:
Foundation Room in the House of Blues.
Collage of Persian rugs and leather
couches. Tough to get in but worth it.
BEST VANTAGE POINT/SCENIC VIEW:
Public accessible: Piers Park in East
Boston. A beautifully landscaped park
on the waterfront with spectacular views
of downtown Boston across the inner
harbor. Location manager accessible:
the top of International Towers on
Boston's Downtown Waterfront—
gateway to Boston's historic Financial
District.
