LMGI COMPASS
|
Winter 2020
We ring in the holidays and usher in a new decade with Nancy Mill's insightful cover story on Greta
Gerwig's Little Women. Supervising Location Manager Doug Dresser and Location Manager Kyle
"Snappy" Oliver welcome us into an historic time capsule throughout Massachusetts, where they
magically condensed four seasons into two months of fi lming. We then straddle the border with the
high-octane series Mayans M.C., Shaun O'Banion's piece on fi lming in Los Angeles and Mexico, and
the "beyond borders" family that has developed among the crew. And new member Jason Wisch
offers an inspired photo essay of his work.
It was a privilege for the LMGI to spend time with our international members and business partners
in London at FOCUS: The Meeting Place for International Production. We are grateful to our partners,
those makers and shakers at the Location Guide. Read more about the event "In the News." Also
included are stories about past Board member Tony Salome, dueling holiday parties across the pond,
Georgia news, Northern California's fi rst LMGI get-together and the California on Location Awards.
Remember to keep us informed of events in your region!
Other columns include member Greg Chiodo's tour of the cradle of liberty—his hometown of Boston,
Massachusetts. Toronto (Hollywood North) member Aine Furey looks back at location managing
though the decades in her "Career Focus."
2020 marks the fruition of our membership campaign. Thanks to your help, we are well on our
way to doubling the size of the LMGI. As we continue to grow in size and strength, our sphere
of infl uence, along with the programs and benefi ts we can offer members expands exponentially.
Anticipating a year of clarity, we announce our new LMGI Awards tagline—2020 VISION: WE SEE IT
FIRST. Remember, as you see projects with great locations that tell production's story, let us know!
We wish you a new decade brimming with grace, wisdom, motivation and brilliant promise. Happy
New Year!
Always a pleasure, never too busy.
