Noelle locates her recalcitrant brother in Phoenix, and, with her nanny and the reindeer, takes up residence at a local mall. Early on, given the expense and logistical complications involved in shooting and lighting an active mall, the decision was made to build it as a stage set, and tie it into a real Phoenix mall. The set was very large and two blue screen openings provided places to drop in expansive views of the Arizona location using visual eff ects plates. Fourteen stores, all with show windows and all allowing entrances and exits, some with complete full-sized interiors; plus a bridge, exterior walls, and dozens of specialty items were designed and built. The graphics department turned out hundreds of signs and illustrations for the stores and the walls of the mall. H J I K
