14 • LMGI COMPASS | Fall 2019 Location pro Rebecca Puck Stair is many things—former LMGI Board member, environmentalist, writer, former English teacher and horse trainer. She is an intelligent, curious, inspiring people person. These qualities, combined with her unrelenting determination, make her a good location manager and scout. They will also serve her well in a run for the New Mexico State Senate seat currently held by Republican William Payne, a lawyer and retired rear admiral in the U.S. Navy, who has been in office since 1997. "With the climate crisis, healthcare, education and infrastructure, New Mexico and the United States are at a tipping point," Stair urges. "We are facing complex problems. The good news? As location managers, we happen to specialize in complex problem solving, on time and on budget." Stair reveals that her work in the entertainment industry directly influenced her decision to run. As a location scout, knocking on doors all over the state, she has met and talked with people from all walks of life, giving her incredibly unique political insight. Her career has placed her in hundreds of homes and a wide range of businesses, talking with residents and owners. She says, "Negotiating thousands of movie contracts with New Mexicans has given me a direct, firsthand understanding of our state's concerns and values." Stair has enjoyed the opportunity of sampling the lives of countless people, learning about their lives and their jobs—from aeronautics and casino management to protecting endangered plants and supporting indigenous leadership. Did I mention she's a people person? Stair adds, "There's nothing like knocking on doors to learn about a community. All those conversations with neighbors essentially built my platform." If elected, Stair will serve at "the Roundhouse" (New Mexico's State Capitol in Santa Fe is the only round state capitol in the U.S.) to support the transition to renewable energy and green jobs, improve the quality of education and upgrade healthcare. The primary election is June 2. We wish her success. For more information and to support Stair, visit www .StairforSenate.com. Out-of- state donations are legal and accepted. Run Puck, Run!
