76 The Costume Designer Fall 2019 Lauren Silvestri 1983– 2019 "Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names." – Proverb The death of someone close to you is one of the most difficult events that someone can go through, especially if it's your best friend and she was only 36 years old. If you had the pleasure of meeting Lauren Silvestri, you would instantly feel her warm and inviting energy. She would make you feel like you had been friends for years. A fierce teammate in any situation, Lauren acted like an agent recommending work to colleagues when she was already booked on a show. She was fearless when it came to tough shows or sourcing out an obscure request from a designer. With a smile and her phone, off she would go and come back with the best options or the item that couldn't be found by anyone else. Lauren worked on some incredible shows, spreading her calm- ness to her entire team. And you would want Lauren on your team, because you knew when that late-night Friday casting email would come in for the 5 am call on Monday, Lauren would be the first to volunteer to close the mall down. But her life wasn't entirely about work. She traveled every long weekend or hiatus she could. She would jet off to Asia for a few months because she wanted to go go-cart riding in Japan, or see the elephants' sanctuary in Thailand, spend Thanksgiving in Paris or see the Northern Lights. That was Lauren—fearless. By Ivy Thaide
