In the end, in Venice, only a ground level front wall was built matching the interior set and the rest of the facade was covered with typical European scaffoldings in order to have a real shabby look to the otherwise nice front of the building. The set decoration department carried some matching construction materials and equipment from Venice to London to seam both sets visually. The lobby of the hostel was inspired by different sources. On a scout to Venice, I visited several one- star hotels to evaluate their level of shabbiness… many references came from them.
