October 14–November 18, 2019 4 Working Nurse l WorkingNurse.com ON THE QUICK Nursing & Healthcare News Nurses Vote 2020 ANA launches updated nonpartisan presidential election website A s we get closer to next year's presidential primaries, the ANA has unveiled an updated ver- sion of its Nurses Vote website, with information and resources on how nurses can get involved in the 2020 campaigns. Action Resources The Nurses Vote 2020 website (nursesvote.org) provides a wealth of nonpartisan information, including: • Summaries of ANA's positions on key issues such as the opioid epidemic and healthcare reform • Tools to check your voter registration status (or help you get registered if you're not already) • Information on how to vote early if you're likely to be working during the hours the polls are open • Tips on how nurses can become more involved, from writing letters to the editors of local newspapers to organizing phone banks or voter registration drives. This information is available to ANA members and nonmembers alike. Candidates' Positions on Healthcare Issues Nurses Vote 2020 provides brief sum- maries of each candidate's favorable record on healthcare, including relat- ed bills or initiatives the candidate has introduced, supported or voted for. If a particular candidate has received support from ANA's political action committee, ANA-PAC, that informa- tion is also disclosed in the candidate summary, although the website does not present any ANA endorsements. The summaries don't include any negative information about a candi- date's record (such as ANA-supported bills the candidate may have voted against), nor do they provide detailed information on candidates' platforms or records on issues other than healthcare. Voter's Edge California If you're looking for additional nonpar- tisan resources on upcoming elec- tions, the League of Women Voters' Education Fund and MapLight have a joint project called Voter's Edge California (votersedge.org/ca). This site lets you look up detailed information on all the candidates and measures on your individual ballot, including biographical data, lists of major financial contributors, endorsements in each race and the candidates' answers to questions about their positions and records.
