Pro-Cache5 is an archive appliance designed for professionals working with file-based workflows. The LTO-5 cartridge nearly doubles the capacity of existing LTO-4 cartridges by providing 1.5 terabytes, along with faster archiving speeds and economic advantages. The secure, portable, interchange- able and IT industry- standard LTO tape cartridges offer an archive life of 30 years. In addition, the Pro-Cache platform can be upgraded to control robotic li- braries, allowing users to archive across mul- tiple cartridges auto- matically and retrieve content over the net- work without manual intervention. Wohler debuts A/V metering solution H The Foundry developing paint texture tool L ONDON— The Foundry (www.thefoundry. co.uk) is working with VFX studio Weta Digital to create an easy-to-use, dedicated, paint texture tool. “Mari” was originally devel- oped at Weta to handle the massively-com- plex, highly-detailed look development work required for films such as Lord of The Rings, King Kongand Avatar. Designed to serve as a full 3D paint tool, Mari is scalable, and The Foundry is hoping to bring the tool to a wider au- dience, much like it did with Digital Domain’s Nuke compositor and Sony Imageworks’ Katana 3D lighting and rendering pipeline technology. The goal for Mari is to allow 3D artists to spend more time painting and less time grappling with technical issues. Fusion gets improved rendering & Python support T ORONTO— Version 6.1 of Eyeon’s (www.eyeonline.com) Fusion compositing system is exploiting the power of low-cost graphics cards with hundreds of cores, reducing the need for a networked rendering solution. The updated release also includes new tools for managing grain, color correction and handling metadata, as well as native Python support and enhancements to particle tools. Support for the OpenCL language allows Fusion to take advantage of the GPUs in Nvidia and ATI graphics cards, achieving large speed increases. Users can insert OpenCL code directly into Fuse tools to create in-house GPU-accelerated tools. Direct support for the RenderMan renderer improves pipeline integration between render- ing and compositing. This is released as open source in the 3D SDK for studios to modify and integrate. Support for Python scripting has been incorporated into the interface. Users can choose between the built-in Eyeonscript or Python languages when creating utility, tool and comp scripts. Both Eyeonscript and Python work together so existing scripts will con- tinue to work, making for an easy transition and allowing better integration for pipelines that prefer a single language. Recognizing the popularity of the Red camera, Eyeon has added support for Red’s Mys- terium X sensor and color science. Additional improvements in the V.6.1 release include ex- panded 3D scene importing via FBX; the ability to use geometry as particle regions; the ability to cache particle solutions to disk; and a refined 3D system that allows full importing of scenes with matched animation curves, stereo cameras, lighting, and multi level materials from all the major 3D applications. www.postmagazine.com AYWARD, CA — Wholer’s (www. wohler.com) AMP2-E16V, is a 16- channel A/V pro- cessing monitor fea- turing dual 4.3-inch OLED displays for video monitoring, loudness metering and control, audio routing and mix con- trols, and Dolby Zoom functions. The AMP2-E16V can take apart an SDI signal and put it back together again. It’s able to embed raw AES audio streams into an SDI signal for broadcast, adjust levels if something is wrong in one channel and control the loudness of the entire pro- gram. Operators can view 3G/HD/SD-SDI video while taking control over numer- ous audio channels from AES, analog, SDI signals or en- coded Dolby, de- pending on the con- figuration. Each audio input is treated equally. Dolby Zoom in- stantly switches be- tween the standard overview of moni- tored channels and monitoring of the de- coded channels and metadata of a Dolby bitstream.
