Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Social Studies (STEMS) Institute Good reading skills are key to a child's success in school, so Target awards Early Childhood Reading Grants to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations that support K-3 reading programs. Together, we're inspiring kids to love reading and encouraging families to read together. Apply online at corporate-responsibility/grants/early-childhoodreading-grants by April 30, 2013. All K-8 teachers, and those who deal with K-12 education outreach, are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity including Arizona Geographic Alliance (AzGA) Teacher Consultants teaching K-8. The Institute will be held April 20, May 11, July 1-3, July 8-11, and August 17, 2013 (9 days) at Arizona State University in Tempe and various field sites. The 9-day institute will include: •Content information about STEM •Field experiences to see academic and commercial settings for STEM •Exemplary lessons that teach STEM and ELA and Math Common Core standards with ELL strategies •Lots and lots of networking with other educators. Summer Agricultural Institute SAI is a 5-day program put on by The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension for educators to tour a region of the state to visit agriculture industries. Tours include a state-ofthe-art dairy, a progressive nursery, a working cattle ranch, a top agriculture research facility, fruit/vegetable/field crop farms, and school agriculture facilities. Participants receive free classroom materials that are aligned to Arizona's Academic Standards. This year, SAI will be held June 10-14, 2013, and participants will travel to the Willcox area (and visit places in between there and the Phoenix area). The registration fee is $125. Applicants will be notified by May 10 if they are selected by the review committee. Through the Target Arts, Culture & Design in Schools Grants, they help K-12 schools bring more cultural activities into the classroom, letting students expand their creativity. Apply online at by April 30, 2013. ING Unsung Heroes Are you an educator with a class project that is short on funding but long on potential? Do you know a teacher looking for grant dollars? ING Unsung Heroes® could help you turn great ideas into reality for students. For more than 15 years, and with nearly $3.8 million in awarded grants, ING Unsung Heroes has proven to be an A+ program with educators. The program's "alumni" have inspired success in the classroom and impacted countless numbers of students. Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000, and $25,000. Applications for the 2013 awards are now available. The application deadline is April 30, 2013.
