products nPower's new plug-in SAN DIEGO — IntegrityWare's nPower Software (www.nPowerSoftware.com) is offering Power Surfacing, a new plug-in that provides organic, free-form surface modeling inside of SolidWorks. It allows SolidWorks users to import subdivision surface models from Modo, 3DS Max, Maya, or other SubD modeling apps. When a shape is designed with Power Surfacing, it is a single, unified object, which can be modified in subtle and significant ways without pulling apart the NURBS surfaces. Once converted into a native SolidWorks part, those Sub-D models are treated as if they had been created with traditional SolidWorks tools. LightWave 11.5 ships and soft-body Bullet Dynamics with support for FiberFX. Also included are Interchange Tools supporting Adobe After Effects cameras and Pixologic's Zbrush. Version 11.5 includes an expanded suite of Virtual Studio Tools for virtual production and adds support in the Viewport Preview Renderer for depth-of-field motion blur, node-edge rendering, and stereoscopic 3D. LightWave 11.5 is now available for $1,495. LightWave 11 customers can upgrade to LightWave 11.5 free of charge. Upgrade pricing from LightWave 10 or earlier versions is $695. StorageDNA adds LTO-6 support I RVINE, CA — StorageDNA's (www.storagedna.com) DNA Evolution is now supporting LTO-6 with Linear Tape File System (LTFS) for its Linux, Mac and compact Thunderbolt field solutions. The sixth generation of LTO increases the capacity and data transfer rate to 2.5TB and 160MB/sec. DNA Evolution is an intelligent LTO with LTFS archive and retrieval workflow solution that optimizes the management of file-based content to help media pros work more efficiently. Additionally, the improved LTO-6 archival life, combined with DNA Evolution's automated and periodic tape health checks, helps maintain the integrity of media. Version 2.1 of DNA Evolution is currently available and offers enhancements in the areas of user experience, user interface design, error reporting, tape verification and integration support. New users can choose between LTO-5 and LTO-6 technology, and existing users have the option of upgrading their LTO-5 drives to LTO-6. 42 Post • March 2013 Post0313_042-productsMLV3finalREAD.indd 42 Southpaw offers free Tactic for iOS B URBANK — NewTek's LightWave 3D Group (www.lightwave3d.com), based here, has released LightWave 11.5, the latest version of its 3D modeling, animation and rendering software. LightWave 11.5 includes new features and functionality that enhance creativity and streamline productivity. Some of the new features include the Genoma character rigging system with modular presets, predator and prey Flocking capabilities, per-object Instancing control, SilhouetteFX improves roto, paint, keying tool L OS ANGELES — SilhouetteFX (www.silhouettefx.com) has released V.5 of its stereo roto, paint and keying software. Updates include a new raster/vector hybrid paint system, semiautomatic 2D to 3D conversion tools, new utilities for shape-based warping and morphing, and the inclusion of Imagineer's Mocha Pro planar tracking technology. Auto Paint is also new, providing the speed and detail of raster-based paint systems with the repeatability and animation capability of vector-based paint systems. The optional S3D node ($3,995) facilitates 2D-to-3D conversion and stereo processing in a number of ways. Tools are provided for keyframing depth, and new roto tools have been added. Depth maps can be built semi-automatically from non-stereo and stereo images. Existing stereoscopic content can be depth analyzed and re-rendered for different display sizes, taking into account the 3D geometry of the target display. In addition, parallax and convergence can be finely adjusted, and virtual camera views can be created for auto-stereo, multi-view and plain stereoscopic displays. The Silhouette Morph node is capable of producing film-res warps quickly. The Silhouette feature set has also been augmented with several IK features. New licenses for V.5 are $1,495. Upgrades from V.3 and V.4 are $495. TORONTO — Southpaw Technology (www.southpawtech.com) has released a free version of its open source asset management system, Tactic Team, for iOS. The new software provides 2D/3D content creators working with Mac, and Macbased creative studios, with a way to manage their digital files, projects and workflows. Available to companies under the Eclipse Public License, Tactic combines digital asset management with project and workflow management. Every feature available on the most recent Windows version of Tactic Team (V.3.9) is now also supported on iOS. Since it is open source, individuals and teams can download the software and start using it for free. www.postmagazine.com 2/27/13 8:08 PM
