approval and assistance were needed in countless other ways, as the paddlewheel, now named the Missouri Belle, could only be shot on Stone Mountain Lake. It was also apparent that Stone Mountain Park had enormous potential for the show in many other ways. Graphic Designer Alanna Smith did Photoshop mock-ups to illustrate what the boat could become. Her photo essay showed how Stone Mountain Lake, and the connected Stone Mountain facilities, could be used to tell the story. Throughout season two of Ozark, I used a lot of Photoshop mock-ups to make presentations for the writers and producers. This is a helpful technique to show exactly what the Art Department is thinking. We made our presentation to Chris Mundy and Jason Bateman, and they agreed that it would work, so we went forward to Stone Mountain. The park officials were amazingly helpful, and their lake and facilities were used often during season two. With the paddlewheel boat now settled, the next big issue to resolve was how to tie locations together. The story stipulated that Marty Byrde had leveraged his knowledge of state and federal water laws and regulations and brought the Snells on as casino partners. The story required the paddlewheel boat to move upriver onto the Snells' land, where it would be the centerpiece of a large real estate development. I often use Google Earth mapping to help figure out a game plan so that I can sell the idea or concept to the writers and producers. This project was no different. Since using Stone Mountain Lake was a given, I had to figure out how to navigate the paddlewheel boat on that waterway and sell the idea that the boat was traveling through the Snell property. I came up with a Google Earth image that showed the narrow waterway at the end of the lake that would play as the waterway cut through the Snell property to get to the casino boat's final destination for the ceremony in the concluding episode of season two. The story arc also included the state's big power broker Charles Wilkes, who assisted the Byrdes in getting their casino passed through the Missouri state legislature. In return for helping the Byrdes, Wilkes wanted a piece of the Snells' riverside land to develop, putting up a hotel resort, shopping mall and amusement park. A focal point of Wilkes' pitch to his other investors would be a detailed model of his development, so Model Maker Pete Johnson was brought in, who had previously made a terrific model for me on The Magnificent Seven, to create E D.
