inner personalities. The scope of creating a subway train, platform and two hundred linear feet of interweaving tunnels meant that construction had to hire an entirely new crew of laborers who worked around the clock to carve the tunnel out of foam. — Grace Walker: "The most challenging set for the Art and construction team to pull off was most definitely in episode nine, when Jane goes to the Underground. The script called for a really long railway tunnel, an underground rail car and a platform—a big ask for a TV show of this size. Fortunately, there was a bit of lead-time, a great portion of which was used for the design and construction drawings, beautifully executed by Allen Coulter. He was still drawing like mad as the set was being put together. The production took a ten-day hiatus for Christmas with this set still not finished, so my holiday break was filled with nightmares as to how we would finish in time! As usual, but not without some very tense moments, it was finished and I was totally blown away at what the construction, paint and set decoration crews had done. It is such a joy to be surrounded by such talent…oh, and this was just one set for this episode!" Luckily, Grace had the forethought to reuse this subway space in multiple episodes and converted the tunnels into both catacombs and lab cell corridors, and converted the platform into a war room, cafe and laboratory! Being able to manipulate the space and capitalize on its many different angles, this space looked spectacular when shot anamorphically. While reading the final script of the season, Grace was faced with creating one of the most unusual sets of the series, a large-scale rat stomach. From the initial research and first sketch of the set, he knew he wanted a semi-translucent membrane for the director of photography to be able to light through. He also knew he wanted to create a ton of A. FULL-SCALE RAILWAY CARRIAGE. ALL THE TRAIN TRAVELLING EFFECTS WERE SHOT ON CAMERA. WITH AN LED WALL USED TO DEPICT THE MOVEMENT. PRODUCTION STILL. B.
