6 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2019 L E T T E R FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Members, Our editorial staff did a fantastic job creating an issue dedicated to historic properties around the world that benefit from production. I hope you enjoy the informative articles and photography, as well as our business partners' ads that showcase these properties. You'll want to keep the issue close at hand for future reference! The first quarter of the year is our busiest time for membership renewal. We are grateful for your continued support and are working to make your renewal automatic with a few keystrokes in your LMGI Website Directory Profile. On the topic of membership, we launched our "1K/2020" Membership Drive in January. Our goal of reaching 1,000 members worldwide by 2020 is easily achievable if each member invites one qualified peer and vendor to join you in supporting the Guild. So spread the word and help us achieve our goal! You are the cornerstone of the Guild. You understand that the LMGI is the only professional organization that promotes our craft worldwide. The increase in the recognition of location pros as valuable members of the creative process has come about largely through the efforts of the LMGI. Photography exhibits and books, Fam Tours, panel discussions, professional development classes, our website, social media and newsletter all put you in the spotlight. The LMGI Compass magazine is read by industry influencers worldwide. We have been accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and we're working to gain recognition from the Television Academy. Noted actors, directors, producers and production designers have received and presented awards honoring locations in commercials, television and feature films at our annual LMGI Awards. We are changing the perception of location managers to reflect the reality that scouting and location management are critical components in visual storytelling. We are proud of our diversity. Our current Board consists of members in TV, commercials and features, at all budget levels. Board members come from Georgia, Vancouver, New York, Toronto and Los Angeles. Consider taking a leadership position … our elections are coming up and we encourage you to join us in planning the Guild's expanding programs and goals. As we grow internationally, members are organizing events in the production hubs where we're represented. These events are orchestrated by location professionals, addressing topics of concern to them. For example, we just held our second very successful event in Atlanta. It increased our recognition among local location professionals and business partners, resulting in professional growth for our members, and increased our ability to promote excellence on location worldwide. Concurrently, members in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, New York and Los Angeles are planning events that will take place this year. I encourage you to get involved in these events. We continue to work with film commissions and industry partners in organizing more frequent Fam Tours. We endeavor to reach local, regional and international hosts and encourage a variety of participants, from TV and commercials, as well as different budget levels of features. Is your LMGI Website Directory Profile up to date? This is how Fam Tour sponsors find you! These are just a few of the many benefits of joining the LMGI. Give some thought to what you would like to see the Guild do in the future. Then, figure out how you can help achieve those goals. We are a volunteer organization, and it is only with your assistance and support that we can continue to grow and increase recognition of our craft.
