6 wholelifetimes.com After a long (albeit much-needed) rainy winter, the glorious weather is finally upon us and it's a wonderful time to celebrate the great outdoors with Mother Gaia! With this being our April/May Environmental edition, we asked a few of our talented and creative writers to answer this question: During this season of rebirth and renewal, do you have any special plans to celebrate Earth Day and Springtime? Sunny Chayes (Pg. 18) Here comes the Sun! I'm creating my personal "New Spring Resolution," shifting into deeper connection with the Mother Earth that sustains my every living moment. I'm feeling the call to receiving the nurturing of nature. My soul seems to be crying out for balance with "city living" and playing, frolicking, and just being in the quiet, sacred, and natural places in and around L.A. It's time for me to peacefully listen, enjoy, be in awe, and walk this talk! Spring is a time when the life force of Nature is the strongest and filled with aliveness. When we notice Mother Nature, she smiles and feels our love. Just as we feel good from positive radiations, so does Mother Earth! I love to hike the mountains of New Mexico acknowledging her beauty and when I'm in NYC, walk through Central Park to feel and let her know how grateful I am to sit on her skin in contemplation! Dr. Linda Lancaster (Pg. 14) Springtime begins and my thoughts turn to planting, continuing nature's cycle of birth and renewal. This year in keeping with the 2019 Earth Day theme of protecting threatened species, I will be doing my part to help the declining west coast monarch population by planting milkweed plants for the monarch butterflies. Monarchs absolutely need milkweed to lay their eggs, as this is the only larval source for monarch caterpillars. Kathy Vilim (Pg. 7) Not liking Winter is something we culturally understand. After all, it is about death and decay. Spring is a time for celebrating the new, the young, the promise of things to come. Who doesn't love that? But Spring isn't possible without the death and decay that came before and made room for the new. Spring is the legacy of Winter, a wondrous gift. So, give thanks to Winter, as you celebrate and rejoice in Spring. Birgitta Kastenbaum (Pg. 16) contributors Greetings Dearest Readers! Happy Spring! Welcome to our April/May special environmental issue! Monday, April 22, is the 49th annual Earth Day. Are you planning an event or outing to celebrate our beautiful Mother Planet? Happy Mothers' Day to all you moms out there – fur baby moms especially! And Happy Day to my Mom, too! We are so fortunate here in glorious SoCal to have many outdoor options! Simply spending time in a local park, heading down to the beach, or going for a walk in a garden would be a lovely and relaxing way to spend the day. And bring WLT with you. In fact, send us your photo with the magazine. We may just print it! We will be out and about too at numerous events this Spring, including VegFest in the Valley, Contact in the Desert in Indian Wells, and the upcoming Disclosure Fest, the free mass meditation event in DTLA and we want to connect with you. We are also excited about the film screening of Free Trip to Egypt from filmmaker Tarek Mounib at the Laemmle in Santa Monica. It's June 7th but be sure to get tix soon. It will be a wonderful night with the filmmakers, special guests, and a panel discussion. Between now and then, be sure to find our publication in nearly 500 locations throughout greater Los Angeles.
