The programs have been so effective that the National Academy of Sciences awarded him its Public Welfare Medal for his commitment to science communication. Imagine, at age 82, taking on the challenge of new media. This year, Alda launched the Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda podcast, in which he interviews experts in communication, such as an FBI hostage negotiator, a Nobel Prize winner, actors, authors and comedians. Imagine using the fame and influence associated with a successful acting, writing and directing career to promote justice, improve communication and educate people for a better world. That's what makes Alan Alda a worthy recipient of the 55th SAG Life Achievement Award. As host of 2010 three-part science series The Human Spark on PBS, Alda demonstrated the technique chimpanzees use to fish for termites in part two, "So Human, So Chimp."
